Introduction

The Raspberry Pi OS, formerly known as Raspbian, is the official operating system for Raspberry Pi microcomputers. This operating system is based on Debian, a popular Linux distribution. It is optimised for simplicity and efficiency, allowing users to take full advantage of the Raspberry Pi’s capabilities, whether for educational projects, DIY or small server applications.

In this course we will look at how to use the Raspberry Pi Os installer so that you can install the right system for your Raspberry Pi.

The first step is to go to the Raspberry website.

The last step is to specify the micro SD card on which you want to install Raspberry Pi OS :

The first step is to indicate whether you have a Raspberry Pi 5 or zero or an earlier version.

If you don’t know your model, you can put No filtering. However, on older Raspberry Pi boards, you cannot install the latest versions of Raspberry Pi OS.

In this section you can choose which operating system to install: Raspberry Pi OS with graphical interface or just the console version. You can also install specific versions for retrogaming, for example, or to turn your Raspberry Pi into a media player:

The last step is to choose the Micro-SD card on which you want to install the operating system for your Raspberry :

Once you have clicked on Next, you will be asked if you are sure you want to overwrite the data on your Micro-SD card in order to install Raspberry Pi OS. Clicking OK will copy Raspberry Pi OS to your Micro-SD card. Once installed, you just need to insert your card into your Raspberry Pi for the first boot.
