Introduction

In this course, we will learn how to install a Super Nintendo (SNES) emulator on a Raspberry Pi.
For this, we will use an emulator platform called RetroArch, which is available on Raspberry Pi.

What is RetroArch?

RetroArch is an open-source software platform for emulation on Raspberry Pi, allowing users to play retro video games.

With RetroArch, you can install different emulators for various retro-gaming consoles such as the NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and even arcade systems.

This means that instead of downloading and configuring each emulator individually, users can simply install RetroArch and choose the emulators they need to play their favorite games.

RetroArch supports a wide range of controllers and gaming peripherals, allowing users to play with their preferred gamepad — whether modern or retro.

Here is the command line to download RetroArch:

sudo apt-get install retroarch

We now need to install the BSNES emulator, which works with RetroArch and allows you to play SNES games.
To do this, open Add/Remove Software by clicking on Menu, then Preferences, and then Add/Remove Software.

Once the page is open, type RetroArch in the search bar at the top left.

To install BSNES, you need to check the following items:

Once they are checked, click Apply, then confirm with OK to install them.

After all the components are installed, we will see how to use RetroArch.
To do this, click on Menu, then Games, and then RetroArch.

When RetroArch starts, you will arrive at the Load Core screen. This allows you to load the BSNES emulator into RetroArch.

Once you click on Load Core, you must choose the one in the middle:

The final step is to return to the RetroArch menu in order to launch your SNES game.
To do this, click on Load Content.

Once you click Load Content, you can select the directory that corresponds to the root of your Raspberry Pi.
From there, simply locate your SNES ROM file, and you’ll be able to play.

Once you have located your game on the Raspberry Pi, all that’s left is to launch it.

Arduino Factory is not responsible for your downloads!

To use the emulator, you will need to install SNES games.
This is only legal if you own the original version of the game on the Super Nintendo.
Arduino Factory does not in any way encourage the illegal downloading of video games.
